We rely on strong partners: How exoIQ, Festool and LAPP move innovation together

Innovations do not come about on their own - they are the result of strong partnerships. This is exactly what exoIQ experienced when developing the S700 active shoulder exoskeleton: together with sister company Festool and connection solution specialist LAPP, a research project was turned into a marketable innovation. The highly flexible data cables from LAPP play a central role in this - they enable precise control of the exoskeleton and make it ready for use in everyday industrial applications.

Precision in detail: cable technology as a key component

The S700 exoskeleton supports employees during overhead work with up to 7.5 kg of additional force per arm - and with full freedom of movement. For this support to work in real time, reliable data transmission between sensors and actuators is required. This is precisely where UNITRONIC® FD P Plus from LAPP comes into play: a highly flexible, abrasion-resistant data cable that is routed through the shoulder joint of the exoskeleton together with a pneumatic tube.

"In a project that was breaking new technological ground, it was helpful to have a robust, market-proven solution for the cabling," explains Stefan Bozler, development engineer at Festool. The requirements in terms of dynamics, bending radius and continuous load were high - LAPP was able to meet them reliably with UNITRONIC®.
