Making ice cream with assistance: Our exoskeleton in test use with "Frau Meis"

Ice cream production is a craft—one that requires passion and physical effort. At Frau Meis in Hamburg-Altona, many liters of ice cream are produced every day with dedication and muscle power. But how can this physically demanding work be made easier? We brought our S700 shoulder exoskeleton with us and, together with Franziska Meis, tested whether it could also be the right tool for the ice cream factory.

Support where you least expect it

Ice cream production involves many tasks that take place above chest height or require heavy containers to be lifted and held – such as lifting an 11-kilogram bucket of ice cream mixture for further processing. This is exactly where our exoskeleton comes in: it actively supports the arms during lifting and holding by gently reaching under the arms and holding them up. Franziska Meis was surprised at how immediately noticeable the relief was: "Suddenly, I had this feeling of – oh, I don't have to do anything and I'm getting help," she says, describing her first experience with the S700.

Versatile – for use in industry and trade

Of course, the exoskeleton is not necessary for every task in the ice cream factory—not when handing out the finished scoops, for example. But its benefits quickly become apparent when performing repetitive, strenuous movements: less fatigue, less physical strain, more energy for the day. Franziska sums it up: "If you have a job where you have to do a lot of repetitive, heavy movements, it helps a lot." The visit to "Frau Meis" shows that our exoskeleton can also be used effectively outside of traditional industrial applications. There is also a short video about our visit to Frau Meis!

Conclusion: Take care of your body, make work easier

Our visit to Frau Meis showed us that our exoskeleton can also make a difference in small manufacturing companies. It is not a substitute for muscle power and cannot support every movement, but it can support many. Exoskeletons are the right tool for improving workplace ergonomics and reducing strain. Whether in industry, skilled trades, or ice cream production, those who take care of their bodies not only work more easily, but also stay healthy for longer.
